A 36-year-old Athens man was stabbed in the kitchen of his girlfriend’s Towne View Place home Wednesday night by a purported stranger who the victim said he was trying to help, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The man told police he let the suspect in to give him some water because he said he was thirsty. The suspect attacked after the man became suspicious and asked to see the hand he was holding behind his back, according to police.
Police said they found the victim on the ground, with his girlfriend applying pressure to a stab wound to the arm from which he had lost a significant amount of blood.
During the ride to the hospital, the victim relayed a consistent story that he did not know the identity of the suspect or what the motive for the attack was, police said.
