Marquita Renee Blasingame, 33, of Paris Street, was arrested Monday night after she stole money from a register at Popeye’s on Prince Avenue, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Surveillance video showed Blasingame reach over the counter and snatch the money, police said. She reportedly told police that she took the cash “to teach the girl a lesson” after an employee left the register drawer open and unattended.
The video also showed her stealing bottles of water from the restaurant, according to police.
Blasingame was charged with theft by taking, theft by shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance and possession of prescription drugs outside of the original container.
