Patrick O’Neal Kennedy, 40, of Rocksprings Court, was arrested on drug and other charges last Friday after fleeing a traffic stop, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Police attempted to stop Kennedy’s car at about 3:15 a.m. when it was seen not fully stopping for a stop sign at Milledge Avenue and Dearing Street. Officers started following the car after seeing it leave Days Inn on North Finley Street, which police identify as a high-crime area.

After speeding from the attempted traffic stop, police say, Kennedy bailed from the car on Albany Avenue and ran across a foot bridge toward Carter Street, where police grabbed him after he ran around a residence there.

Police said a search of the car turned up bags of crack cocaine, hydrocodone pills and an unspecified amount of cash found in the car’s center console and scattered about the vehicle.

Kennedy was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, felony fleeing and eluding a police officer, committing a drug offense within 1,000 feet of a school, failure to obey a stop sign, driving on a suspended license and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
