Shondra Marie Howard, 39, was arrested early Tuesday morning after she illegally evicted a roommate from her apartment at Bethel Midtown Village, Athens-Clarke police said.
The roommate told police she got home to find Howard had removed $2,000 in clothing from the apartment and placed it by some trash bins.
Howard apparently was evicting the roommate for non-payment of rent, which the roommate said she had been unable to pay because of a problem with direct deposit of her paycheck.
In addition to putting out the woman’s clothing, Howard had left a mattress and TV stand at the trash bins, and those items that were subsequently stolen, according to police.
Police said they told Howard she should have gone to court to handle the eviction instead of taking matters into her own hands. She was charged with criminal trespass/interference with property.
Police told the roommate she could remain at the apartment until being served with a lawful eviction notice.
