A 25-year-old woman was taken to the hospital early Thursday after she threatened suicide on the bridge spanning the Middle Oconee River where West Broad Street becomes Atlanta Highway, Athens-Clark County police said.
The woman kept warning officers to stay away from her, saying she did not want to live, but when she held up her phone to show a photo of her son, officers used the opportunity to get closer and eventually convince her to walk off the bridge with them, according to police.
She was taken by ambulance to Athens Regional Medical Center.
