Derrick Tramell Bailey, 26, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he tried to run from officers who wanted to serve him with a warrant, Athens-Clarke County police said.
After spotting the man on the front porch of his Washington Drive home, officers allowed him to take some children inside the house so they did not have to witness him being handcuffed. As soon as the last child went inside, Bailey tried to flee, but was quickly tackled, according to a police report.
Bailey, who was being sought for an alleged felony probation violation, told police he tried to run because he had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket.
He was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
