Curioki Donta Hyche, 27, of East Carver Drive was arrested at Twin Oaks Apartment on East Broad Street Thursday after he allegedly used a knife and bleach to damage property of a woman with whom he used to live, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Police said they were went to the apartment complex on information that Hyche, who had an outstanding arrest warrant for a felony probation violation, could be located there. On arrival, police said, an officer met with the woman Hyche used to live with who said Hyche could be found in her mother’s apartment.
When the mother opened the door, she appeared to be frightened, police said, and the officer saw Hyche standing outside of a bathroom from which the sound of a flushing toilet could be heard. The officer called for Hyche to come outside, where he took the suspect into custody, police said.
“I went to the bathroom and looked for evidence, as Hyche is a known drug dealer and I feared that he had destroyed evidence,” the officer wrote in an incident report. “The water in the toilet was cloudy, as if something had been flushed, but I was unable to recover any evidence.”
The woman’s mother then pointed to a bedroom in which there was a smell of bleach and a broken desk, police said. The officer learned from the woman with whom Hyche had lived that Hyche poured bleach on her clothes and possibly slashed her air mattress, which deflated. A knife was seen on the floor nearby.
In addition to being served with the probation violation warrant, Hyche was charged with criminal trespass/damage to property. He was also charged with obstruction of a law enforcement office, but that charge was not explained in the police report.
