A 55-year-old Madison County man was shot and wounded on Danielsville Road on Saturday night in what Athens-Clarke County police said was a drug-related incident.
Officers responded about 10:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Danielsville Road, where police said they found the Hull resident in the driver’s side of a vehicle, bleeding from as bullet wound to his leg. As EMS personnel were getting the victim out of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was discovered under the seat, police said. The weapon reportedly was “stove piped,” meaning the semiautomatic pistol was jammed from having failed to eject a spent cartridge casing. On the floor of the car where the victim was sitting, police said they recovered a bullet and a suspected rock of crack cocaine.
An empty container of an alcoholic beverage was on the floor of the passenger seat, police said, the same type of beverage was found several feet from the passenger side of the car.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital and the case was turned over to detectives from the Centralized Criminal Investigations Division, police said.
