Officers Monday afternoon responded to Zoro Used Auto Sales, 265 Hawthorne Ave., on the owner’s complaint he wanted to bar two homeless men who were fighting at an abandoned house he owned next door, Athens-Clarke County police said.
One of the men had a cut on his arm, which he said was caused by half of a ripped-up beer can wielded by the other man during a dispute over a woman, according to police. The owner of the house said the injured man had first approached him to say he had accidentally cut himself with glass, then changed his story to say the other man had cut him with a knife before changing it again to say the ripped-up beer can was the weapon.
Police said a decision was made to not make an arrest due to the inconsistent stories.
The owner of the property told police he was going to destroy the abandoned house to resolve problems he’d been experiencing there.
