Michael Joseph Richardson Jr., 20, of Orchard Knob Lane, was arrested Monday night after he allegedly assaulted his 80-year-old grandmother, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The grandmother told police she did not want Richardson at her Ponderosa Drive home because he was verbally abusive and disrespectful. When his mother was going there to visit, he reportedly got into her car and refused to get out, police said.
Upon arriving at the grandmother’s home, Richardson allegedly yelled and cursed at her, getting within inches of her face, according to police. When she told him she was calling the police, Richardson allegedly grabbed her by the wrist and wrested the phone away. A police report noted that a 911 dispatcher could hear Richardson telling the woman to not call police. He was charged with simple battery and obstruction of a 911 call.
