A teen was shot to death Thursday night at a north Athens apartment complex.

Trequavious “Trey” Treasure-Marqua Elder, 19, was pronounced dead at the hospital after being shot at the North Grove Apartment complex on Old Hull Road, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

His alleged killer, 31-year-old Fernakey Juan Pass, was taken into custody at the complex and was charged with murder and aggravated assault, police said.

According to police, the shooting resulted from an argument between the victim and suspect.

Police would not say what the argument was about, nor would they discuss possible motives for the shooting.

Police officers responded to the North Grove Apartments on a 10:08 p.m. report of a fight and a large group of people. The shooting was reported while the officers were en route.

Upon finding the teen on the ground and suffering from a head wound, officers attempted lifesaving measures prior to the arrival of an ambulance crew, police said. Elder was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center were he was later pronounced dead.

Pass, who lived at North Grove Apartments, was arrested in the complex within an hour of the shooting, police said.

He has a history of arrests, mostly for misdemeanor offenses and also family violence, Athens-Clarke County State Court records.

Pass was being held at the Clarke County Jail without bail being set.

The shooting marked the second murder this year in Athens.

On Jan. 13, 21-year-old University of Georgia student Min Seok Cho was shot and killed at University Gardens apartments off Baxter Street during a marijuana transaction that turned into an armed robbery.
