A man and a woman who allegedly raped a 10-year-old special needs child in Athens last year will be tried separately, according to a recent court filing.
The filing was a request to have Melissa Nicole Jones stand trial prior to her boyfriend and alleged accomplice, Matthew Wilson Freethy-Swimm.
In the request, filed last month in Clarke County Superior Court, a prosecutor informed the judge that Jones made statements that incriminated herself and Freethy-Swimm in the alleged June 2013 assault.
