A 40-year-old Athens man recently received probation after pleading guilty to assaulting a 13-year-old girl with a knife last July.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed a 2013 indictment that accused the man of sexually assaulting the same girl five years earlier, when she was 8 years old, according to Clarke County Superior Court records.
In a motion to dismiss the previous assault case, a prosecutor referred to “facts arising” from the more recent case against Demetrius Adrian Tanner as a reason for dropping charges, according to the motion.
