A man who was apparently under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms assaulted an Athens-Clarke County police officer attempting to get him medical attention.
Police said officers responded to University Oaks apartments on West Broad Street at about 11:15 p.m. on a report of an injured and possibly disoriented person there.
Upon arrival officers found 23-year-old Austin Jack Mitchler sitting naked in the living room of an apartment with blood on his hands and holes he had punched in a wall, according to police.
