An Athens-Clarke County police officer last week drove a teen to school after he mediated a truce between the boy and his mother over him not wanting to go to school, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.
The 17-year-old boy was claiming he did not want to go to school because he was tired from having been in jail until his mother bonded him out the night before, according to the report. When arguing with his mother, the teen reportedly pushed by her and walked out of their home.
The woman said she called police because “she worked too hard to let him wander the streets and get into trouble,” according to the police report. When police arrived on the scene, they saw the teen walking down the sidewalk and cursing at his mother, who was following in her car.
The teen was returned home so he could change clothes, at which time he was driven to school by the police officer. The officer offered to pick him up after school, if his mother had not cooled off by then or if he just needed a ride, according to the police report.
