A University of Georgia student was driven to the hospital early Saturday by a motorist who found him on Barber Street, covered with blood from a severe laceration to his head, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The 21-year-old UGA senior did not know what happened to him, making mention to police about a birthday party, going downtown, drinking a lot of alcohol and a fight, but telling his sister when she arrived at the hospital that he’d been struck by car.
The student’s other injuries included road rash to his arms, hands and knees, according to police, and minor cuts all over his arms and legs.
According to the woman who drove him to the hospital, she was driving home from work when she saw the student, who was yelling for help and saying to not leave him and that he was scared, police said. His cellphone was located in a gravel drive on Standard Oil Street, about a mile from where the motorist found him.
Police said they went to where the student and his cellphone were found, but they did not detect any evidence he was struck by a vehicle at either location.
The student was told by police to contact them if he recalled anything else about what might have happened to him.
