A 25-year-old Gwinnett County man was pistol-whipped during an assault early Saturday when he wandered from the downtown area and became lost, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Police said they responded to St. Mary’s Hospital on a report the victim was being treated there for his injuries. When recounting his story, the area in which the attack occurred sounded to be somewhere south of East Broad Street, in the vicinity of Florida Avenue or South Newton Street, according to police.
The victim described his attackers as two black males who reportedly demanded he leave the area before repeatedly striking him in the head with a gun, police said. He said he passed out during the attack, according to police, who said the man suffered an apparent broken nose and head injuries were consistent with having been sustained in a pistol-whipping.
