Melissa McElroy Sibly, 47, of Decatur was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she was found passed out in her car at a traffic light at North Jackson Avenue and East Broad Street at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Police said when they found Sibly her speech was badly slurred, her dress was soiled and there was a small abrasion to her knee. The car was said by police to be straddling the two northbound lanes of North Jackson Street.

When asked what was going on, the woman replied she was at a fraternity house with her son and was driving back to Atlanta, according to police. Police did not indicate the fraternity house to which she referred, or whether her son was a member.

Sibly said she had three glasses of wine and began drinking at noon, according to police. She was arrested when it became evident she was too impaired for the roadside sobriety tests an officer was attempting to administer, police said. Sibly was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and improper stopping on the roadway.
