The president of the Athens American Postal Workers Union called police Saturday concerning a worker’s alleged threat that may have been politically motivated during a dispute over reserved parking at the U.S. Postal Service’s Olympic Drive facility.
The employee, a 54-year-old Danielsville resident, parked in the union president’s reserved space, telling the union official since the official was handicapped and had a handicap decal on his vehicle, he should therefore park in a handicap space, according to police.
The employee refused to move his pickup from the space, police said, and when the union official threatened to have the truck towed the worker told the official that he would “meet you outside,” and when walking past the official’s vehicle the worker pushed in an exterior mirror, police said.
The union president reportedly told police that union elections were upcoming, which was why he believed the worker’s behavior was politically motivated.
Police said they explained the arrest warrant process to the union official, who indicated he also wished to obtain a no-contact order in court.
