John Robert Joyner Jr., 65, of Helen Street, was shocked by police with a Taser on Wednesday morning when he became aggressive toward an officer who caught him trespassing at a Westside public housing complex, Athens-Clarke County police aid.
Joyner was barred for two years from Broadacres Homes in August, and when an officer spotted him at the complex and tried to arrest him, Joyner allegedly continued to act aggressively even after the officer warned he would use his Taser, according to police. The officer wrote in the report he decided to use the electric shocking device because of Joyner’s behavior, and also because the man began walking toward West Broad Street, which was “busy with traffic.”
When shocked with the Taser’s electrodes, Joyner went into “total body lockup” and fell to the ground, police said. He was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
