Wesley McDuffie, 51, of East Broad Street, was arrested downtown early Thursday after a drunken disturbance on College Avenue, Athens-Clarke County police said.
An officer was standing outside the downtown substation at about 12:30 a.m. when he heard McDuffie cursing and banging on a trash can up the street, police said.
When the officer went to investigate, McDuffie said he was “venting” over an incident that occurred earlier, then refused to show any ID because
“this wasn’t the Eastern Bloc,” according to
police.
McDuffie was arrested and charged with public intoxication.
