A 36-year-old man was accidentally shot in the chest after he and other men were discussing whether revolvers and semiautomatic handguns had safeties, Athens-Clarke County police said. The injury wasn’t life-threatening.
The friend who shot him told police he was using a revolver to demonstrate, “pulling the hammer back and the trigger to release the cylinder to show him, and the gun went off,” the police report said.
Police noted the revolver was next to a semiautomatic pistol on the dining room table inside the Monty Drive residence, along with cans of beer and a highball glass containing an amber liquid.
No charges were filed.
