An Athens Regional Medical Center nurse recently reported she was still suffering the effects of being punched in the head by an 80-year-old female patient three weeks earlier.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, the nurse was punched by the combative patient on Aug. 23, a blow to the temple that “stunned” her and left her feeling “clammy” and “turning white.” After an examination by an emergency room doctor and the hospital’s Employee Health department, the nurse said she was told to return to work, according to the report.
About a week later, when “feeling worse,” the nurse said she went to Employee Health and was told to return to work, according to the report filed on Saturday.
The police report indicated the nurse spoke of dizziness and nausea, and said “she cannot operate a motor vehicle and has been stumbling in her present condition.”
