Deanna Ruth Moore, 40, of Brookwood Drive was arrested Wednesday after she was caught stealing cosmetics and personal care items altogether valued at $123 from CVS on Oglethorpe Avenue, Athens-Clarke County police said.

She was charged with felony theft by shoplifting due to having three or more previous shoplifting convictions, according to police.

Moore reportedly set off a security sensor alarm upon entering the store at about 4 a.m., causing employees to think she may have items in her bag that were previously stolen, according to police.

The manager called 911 upon seeing Moore placing items in the bag while she was in the cosmetics aisle, police said. When officers arrived Moore reportedly told them she was intending to pay for the items, which police said were concealed beneath clothing at the bottom of the bag, and she insisted she just chose to place items in the bag rather than in a shopping cart.

In addition to what was in the bag, police said Moore was trying to steal a bottle of lotion which he had tucked under one of her bra straps. The woman was also found to have several pills of clonazepam, alprazolam and Ambien, police said, so in addition to shoplifting, Moore was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of prescription drugs outside of the original container.
