An Athens woman who authorities said used her 8-year-old daughter to further her career as a prostitute was indicted this week on charges the woman sexually and physically assaulted her child.
Destiny Delana Rosenberger, 32, allegedly sexually violated her young daughter and also strangled the child with her hands, according to the grand jury indictment filed Tuesday in Clarke County Superior Court.
The indictment added lurid details to a case in which authorities already made shocking allegations of child abuse against Rosenberger.
The indictment charges Rosenberger with two counts each of child molestation and sexual exploitation of a child, and with single counts of aggravated assault and aggravated sexual battery.
Rosenberger was arrested on June 9. Prior to this week’s indictment authorities disclosed allegations the 8-year-old victim took photographs of her naked mother in lewd poses, and watched as Rosenberger had sex with a man. Those photos allegedly were then posted online by Rosenberger as she solicited customers for sexual liaisons.
Previously filed court documents included the affidavit of an Athens-Clarke County police Sex Crimes Unit detective who witnessed a forensic interview of the child victim. The detective stated in the affidavit that during the interview, the child “described multiple instances of child molestation and possible exploitation.”
The girl reportedly described in graphic details how her mother posed for the photographs which she took using Rosenberger’s cellphone. The photos were then “sent to guys that she just met,” the girl said during the interview, according to the affidavit.
In addition to allegedly sexually violating her own daughter Rosenberger also allegedly punched the child victim when the girl did not want to participate in her mother’s illicit activities. Police said Rosenberger also grabbed the child by the neck and head while in the shower to force water into the girl’s nose and mouth.
During the forensic interview with an expert from The Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center, the victim described “multiple instances that indicate her mother is involved in prostitution and participating in sexual activities in the presence of the child,” the affidavit states. She was present during “multiple” of her mother’s sexual encounters with men, according to the affidavit.
According to the indictment, the alleged abuse occurred in Athens from Feb. 1 to when the Department of Family and Children Services took the child from Rosenberger on March 7. Police said the abuse allegedly also occurred in Florida, prior to Rosenberger moving with her daughter to Athens.
