Charlie Barrow III, 36, of Broadacres Court, was arrested Saturday after he crashed an SUV he allegedly taken without permission from a family member, Athens-Clarke county police said.
He allegedly took his sister’s SUV from the Broadacres Homes apartment complex and then lost control of the vehicle on North Avenue, between North Thomas Street and Willow Street, first driving onto a sidewalk and striking a lamp post, and then going back into the roadway and onto the median where it struck a tree, police said. A witness told police he saw the SUV speed away.
Officers soon found the badly damaged SUV on North Avenue, where they arrested Barrow for motor vehicle theft, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license and failure to maintain lane.
