Christopher Paul Johnson, 22, was arrested Saturday night after he pulled a gun on another motorist at a red light at Prince and Hawthorne avenues, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The victim told police Johnson’s pickup truck cut him off on Jefferson Road prior to the gun incident at the light. After the gun was pointed at him at the light, the victim told police he followed Johnson’s truck from the red light and through downtown, where the suspect’s truck was finally stopped by police on East Clayton Street.
A passenger in the victim’s car made a cellphone video recording of Johnson’s truck as they followed it through the downtown area, where at one point it appeared to run a red light and strike a pedestrian. Johnson admitted to pulling the gun, saying he was unaware he cut anyone off and was scared when the victim followed him and then pulled alongside at the red traffic light, according to police.
Johnson, whose loaded gun was found in the driver’s side of his truck, was charged with aggravated assault.
