Derrick Rucker, 17, of Vineyard Drive was arrested Thursday morning after he allegedly passed motion picture prop money at McDonald’s on West Broad Street and then allegedly tried to flee from police.
The cashier at the drive-thru window knew it was fake money when Rucker reportedly handed her a crumbled up $20 bill, because she said nobody pays for food in that manner, according to police. By the time the clerk saw the bill was marked “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY” and notified her manager, Rucker drove away without getting the chicken biscuit he ordered, police said.
Police initially spotted and attempted to stop Rucker’s car on Hawthorne Avenue, but the teen ignored police and didn’t stop until he saw more police coming toward him from the opposite direction on Prince Avenue, police said.
When searched, Rucker was found to have an additional fake $20 bill in his pocket, police said, and a passenger in his car had a wad of prop money consisting mostly of fake $20 bills, according to police.
Rucker was charged with theft by deception, fleeing and eluding a police officer failure to carry a driver’s license, and also with a learner’s permit violation.
