An elderly Watkinsville woman was identified as the victim who died Monday afternoon when her car collided with a utility truck at an intersection in the Oconee County community.
Novene Landers, 84, of Hillcrest Drive, reportedly drove her car into the intersection of main Street and Hardin Hill Road at about 4:40 p.m. when the vehicle was struck in the driver’s side by a Walton EMC bucket truck.
Landers was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness who called 911 reportedly told the Oconee Enterprise newspaper that he was in his yard a few blocks from the intersection what he heard the screeching of tires that he estimated lasted two to three seconds, followed by a crash.
The Enterprise reported Landers had in her car a dog, which was turned over to Oconee County Animal Control.
The fatal crash was being investigated by the Georgia state patrol.
