A trailer stolen from the University of Georgia Friday night was involved in a collision when it came detached from the thief’s SUV and struck another vehicle head-on, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The trailer was stolen from UGA’s soil testing facility on College Station Road, and as it was being towed on Cherokee Road near Lexington Road it detached from the vehicle and struck a car occupied by an Athens man and a 9-year-old girl, police said. Neither was injured.
The Black Chevrolet Tahoe towing the trailer sped from the scene, according to police. UGA was unaware of the theft, and campus police arrived on the scene to take the trailer.
