Authorities on Monday afternoon searched for a state prisoner who walked away from a work detail in east Athens.
David Earl Gill, 24 was serving a sentence at the Clarke County Correctional Institution after a conviction in Clayton County on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His sentence is not scheduled to expire until February 2018, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Gill reportedly was last seen in the area of Hancock Industrial Way near Olympic Drive, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
At the time, Gill was said to be shirtless and wearing white prison pants with blue stripes on the side of the legs.
Police said that if anyone sees Gill, they should not approach him an instead call 911 immediately.
