Athens-Clarke County police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a rape suspect.
The reported rape occurred the night of April 12 in the victim’s home in the downtown area, and police released surveillance footage from The Grill on College Avenue where the victim said she encountered the suspect prior to being assaulted.
The suspect reportedly followed the victim home and talked his way into her residence.
Lt. Jeff Clark, commanding officer of the Athens-Clarke County police Sex Crimes Unit, said the victim was extremely anxious in coming forward, and so would not disclose any further information about the victim or her allegations.
The initial police report indicated the victim was 21 years old and she alleged the suspect committed both rape and aggravated sodomy.
Police said the victim described her alleged attacker as a thin white male who was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and had a full brown beard and light-colored eyes.
Anyone who might be able to identify the suspect or has information about the alleged assault is asked to contact Det. Laila Schuler at (706) 613-3888, extension 793.
Anonymous calls can be made to the Crime Stoppers confidential tipline, (706) 705-4775.
