Christopher Thomas Carter, 21, was arrested early Friday after a traffic stop conducted on his car after he was observed leaving a high-crime apartment complex, Athens-Clarke County police said.

After driving out of Rolling Ridge Apartments at about 1:30 a.m., police said, Carter appeared to make an evasive, sudden turn into a neighborhood where he appeared to drive around aimlessly, according to police.

The car was stopped due to a broken license plate light, police said. He at first denied being at Rolling Ridge, then said he went there to see if his boyfriend was cheating on him.

Police said they searched the car and found various types of pills, including hydrocodone and valium.

The man from North Augusta, S.C. was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and cited for the burned out tag light.
