A driver for a local towing service reported he was on the way to a wreck Tuesday night when he saw someone being assaulted in east Athens.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, the witness was in his truck at a red light at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and North Avenue when he saw two males get out of a car and begin beating up an older man who was on the sidewalk.
The males then forced the victim into their car, which drove off on North Avenue, according to police.
Police said they were unable to locate a crime scene to examine, and they unsuccessfully checked with hospitals for a possible victim.
