Michael Kinyon Jackett, 39, was arrested early Sunday after a police officer spotted him doing push-ups in the parking lot of The Varsity on West Broad Street and subsequently learned he was wanted on warrants in Barrow County, Athens-Clarke County police said.
After he asked an officer to tell his girlfriend in a motel room across the street he was being arrested, the girlfriend said she was sleeping and woke up to see Jackett snorting methamphetamine, and that he ran out the door upon her pretending she was calling the police, police said.
Jackett was later released into the custody of Barrow County sheriff's deputies.
