John Lee Gray, 33, was arrested at University Garden Apartments on Baxter Street on Tuesday night after he allegedly yelled racial slurs and spit at police officers, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.
According to one of the responding officers, he responded on a request to assist another officer for an unspecified reason, saw Gray and another man making the slurs, and also heard Gray tell a female officer to “leave this job to men.”
As a crowd assembled, Gray continued to be belligerent and was arrested, allegedly resisting and spitting at officers as he was being handcuffed, according to the report.
Gray was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
