An alleged drunk driver was so intoxicated Saturday evening that she had to be placed on a stretcher for an ambulance ride to the hospital to have blood drawn for toxicology testing, Athens-Clarke County police said.
According to police, 47-year-old Tonya Lynn Munderloh was driving the wrong way on South Milledge Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. when concerned witnesses got out of their vehicle and reached into Munderloh’s car to turn off the ignition. Police said there were open cans of Bud Light mixed drinks in the car, and they were unable to speak with Munderloh because she was unable to speak in complete sentences.
An ambulance was called to the scene because officers made a determination the jail would not accept Munderloh in her condition. The National EMS crew that arrived “had to get the stretcher for her because she was not able to walk on her own due to her level of impairment,” police said.
While at Athens Regional Medical enter, Munderloh “removed all of her IVs and bled all over the room,” according to police.
Munderloh was later booked into the Clarke County Jail on charges of DUI, possession of open containers of alcohol in a vehicle and driving on the wrong side of the road.
