A manager at Publix on Barnett Shoal Road on Tuesday reported that one of the store’s motorized shopping carts was stolen, Athens-Clarke County police said.
A customer alerted management to the theft on Saturday, telling about seeing a heavy-set woman riding along Barnett Shoals Road toward Lexington Road, with a man walking alongside, police said.
The manager said the customer’s information was not immediately looked into because the store was very busy at the time. The manager said he looked for the $3,000 cart at several apartment complexes prior to calling police.
