Quinnothy Dwight Brown, 33, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly strangled his girlfriend during a dispute at their home on Sir Scott Road, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The victim’s oldest son, age 10, reportedly entered the bedroom with a frying pan and told Brown to get off his mother, at which time Brown pushed him into a wall, according to police.
Brown allegedly again grabbed the woman by the throat and squeezed, causing her to nearly lose consciousness before Brown let go, police said. The woman said she then locked herself in a bathroom, and alleged Brown broke the door and began choking her again, police said.
Brown denied assaulting the woman or pushing her son, according to police.
Also in the home at the time of the incident was the 1-year-old son of Brown and the victim, police said.
Brown was charged under the state Family Violence Act with aggravated assault, first-degree cruelty to children, third-degree cruelty to children and criminal trespass/damage to property.
The victim also was arrested because there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Jackson County. Relatives took custody of her children and she was turned over to Arcade police at the county line, police said.
