Alex Brannen Dunne, 21, of Pine Tops Drive was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after an officer stopped his car for allegedly driving erratically and almost driving into curbs, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Dunne was arrested after he failed roadside sobriety tests, and he refused to submit to a blood test, wanting to know if the test would check only for alcohol, according to police. An officer noted in a police report he previously arrested Dunne and knew him to have a “serious drug addiction.”

While being processed at the jail, Dunne reportedly made several statements, including he previously got out of trouble because “money talks in this town,” and that he knew how Breathalyzers worked because he has to use one to start his car, police said.

Dunne was charged with driving under the influence of multiple substances. He was also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, but those charges were not explained in the police report.
