A body found in a vehicle in east Athens Thursday afternoon has been tentatively identified by Athens-Clarke County police as that of a 28-year-old Athens man who was reported missing a week earlier.
The minivan in which the body was found matched the description of the vehicle the missing man was driving, as did the license plate, police said.
Police said foul play did not appear to be involved in the death of the man. A loved one told police the missing man did not have suicidal tendencies. The man’s fiancée reported him missing on Oct. 22.
The victim’s vehicle was found parked in the wood line of a gravel parking lot at Fastenal, an industrial supplies distributor on Olympic Drive.
The body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime Lab for positive identification and an autopsy.
