A 15-year-old boy reported his cellphone was stolen Thursday at Cedar Shoals High School by another student who allegedly was a gang member, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The victim said he allowed the suspect to use the phone while they were in a restroom, when the suspect began to talk “in codes and numbers,” according to police. Upon asking for his phone back, police said, the suspect stated that “the gang will be here in three minutes.” When the suspect left with the phone the victim followed, until he found himself surrounded by purported gang members who put up their fists as though they were about to fight the victim, police said. The victim said a teacher was nearby, which is why he believed he was not attacked.
